My paintings begin in other images, and in the process of collecting and considering them. I pull from the incidental and personal to the historic and archival. The initial drawings made from preparatory collages mutate as I revise and change the scene, sometimes drastically during the painting process, continuing a complex knotting of information that began in the collection stage. I persistently walk the tightrope between the materiality of paint and a fidelity to representation. These competing concerns aim to reach a third place, one a bit stranger than if either had complete control.

Hunter MFA

This spring, the Hunter College MFA Program in Studio Art will graduate 26 artists who completed their degree over the challenging months of the COVID-19 pandemic. These talented MFA Thesis Candidates are exhibiting their work in six group exhibitions at 205 Hudson, in addition to this online spotlight hosted by Hauser & Wirth. At time when the public audience for in-person exhibitions has been limited by the pandemic, we are excited to provide this digital platform to the emerging artists from Hunter College’s MFA Program in Studio Art.
